Rauhnacht special: Breathing exercise with sound

In preparation for the powerful time of the Rough Nights, today we present another ritual from our free Rough Nights Guide.

Each Rauhnacht relates to a specific theme and a month in the coming year. Our following breathing exercise with sound is also based on this theme. You can find out more about the Rauhnächte in our detailed blog post.

Ritual for the 2nd Rauhnacht (December 25-26)

  • Month: February
  • Topic: Come to rest, find inner peace

Breathing exercise with sound: Parasympathetic lip brake

  1. Take a comfortable sitting position and place one hand on your stomach.
  2. Breathe in deeply through your nose and feel your belly bulge forward on your hand.
  3. Shape your lips as if you were trying to whistle and now exhale through your pursed lips. It is important that your exhalation takes about twice as long as your inhalation. The lungs do not have to be completely empty.
  4. Pause briefly after exhaling and wait until the next breath comes naturally.
  5. Use optional gong sounds when you exhale: strike the gong gently when you start to exhale. Let the sound reverberate in the room throughout your exhalation and follow the rhythm of the gong with your breath.
